Ukraine and the Holy See mark the 34th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations. The date reflects decades of mutual respect and trust, during which an open dialogue and a distinctive spiritual connection have developed between the Ukrainian people and the Apostolic See.
Over these years, cooperation between Ukraine and the Holy See has spanned humanitarian, cultural and social fields. Joint initiatives have supported the protection of human dignity, assistance to vulnerable communities and the promotion of interreligious understanding.
Since the launch of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the solidarity of the Holy See has taken on a particularly practical dimension. Support for those affected by hostilities, engagement in humanitarian missions, deliveries of medical and food supplies, and assistance to children, displaced families and prisoners of war have become visible expressions of closeness to the Ukrainian people in a time of hardship.
Ongoing dialogue plays a central role, focusing on the protection of life, fundamental human rights and the pursuit of a just peace based on international law. Ukraine values the consistent position of the Holy See in calling for an end to civilian suffering and the restoration of justice.
Bilateral dialogue and cooperation continue in the areas of humanitarian support and the defense of human dignity.
