On 14 July, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Holy See’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, visited a camp where Russian prisoners of war are being held.
The visit took place as part of the Cardinal’s mission to Ukraine and provided an opportunity to observe the conditions of detention of Russian prisoners of war firsthand. The visit reaffirmed Ukraine’s openness to independent international engagement and transparency regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.
Ukraine ensures that prisoners of war are treated in full compliance with international humanitarian law and fulfils its international obligations, including those set out in the Geneva Conventions.
