25 February 2026 09:37

On Feb. 24, the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, commemorative and prayer services were held in Rome with the participation of the Ukrainian community, clergy and members of the diplomatic corps.

At the Church of Sts. Sergius and Bacchus, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk led a joint prayer attended by representatives of the Ukrainian community, clergy and the diplomatic corps, honoring those killed as a result of Russia’s aggression and voicing an appeal for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

Later the same day, the Community of Sant’Egidio organized a prayer for peace in Ukraine at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere to mark the fourth year since the beginning of the war. The service was presided over by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi. The gathering stood as a visible sign of solidarity, unity and continued support for the Ukrainian people from Italian society and the international community.

Ukraine remembers every life lost for the country’s freedom and, together with its international partners, continues efforts to restore peace and security in Europe.
