The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, and Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Iryna Vereshchuk, met with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Pope’s Special Envoy for Ukraine.

The discussions focused on the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian detainees, as well as continued humanitarian cooperation.

Cardinal Zuppi briefed the Ukrainian side on his visit to a camp holding Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine, noting that the conditions of detention comply with international humanitarian law. He also informed the participants that he had requested permission from the Russian side to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war held by the Russian Federation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating their efforts and exchanging information to facilitate the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian detainees.
