On May 27th the Chairman of the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko met with the Vatican’s deputy head of the Office for Foreign Relations of the Secretariat of State, Antoine Camilleri. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Tatiana Izhevska and MPs Sergey Alekseev and Viktor Romanyuk.
Ukrainian delegation, expressed gratitude to Vatican and Pope Francis personally for their continued attention and support to Ukraine, including, in efforts to release the Ukrainians, detained in Russia. Hanna Hopko informed Antoine Camilleri about the actual situation in Donbas and Crimea.
The arties discussed the visit of Secretary of State of the Holy See Pietro Parolin to Ukraine in June this year.
During the meeting, the Vatican side once again confirmed the continuity of its position, stressing that it considers essential the respect for international law in the conflict around Ukraine.
During discussions of the possibilities of expansion of bilateral relations in the field of medicine the interlocutors touched upon the cooperation of medical institutions of Ukraine with pediatric hospital «Bambino Gesu» as regards the treatment of Ukrainian children and training of doctors from Ukraine at «Bambino Gesu».
