On April 15, in the framework of the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Italy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha held a working meeting with the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian side expressed sincere gratitude for the Order’s consistent humanitarian support since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Particular attention was paid to the contribution in addressing energy challenges through the “Warmth for Ukraine” initiative, as well as assistance provided to Ukrainians forced to flee their homes and received in neighboring countries.
While acknowledging the Order’s principled neutrality, the Ukrainian side emphasized that its practical actions demonstrate a clear commitment to humanitarian causes and tangible support for those affected by the war. Such solidarity was highly appreciated.
A significant part of the discussion focused on the security situation. The Ukrainian side informed about the current developments on the battlefield. Ukraine continues to hold the line, with the strategic goal of bringing the war on its territory to an end. As Russia continues its aggression with daily drone and missile attacks, further strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities remains essential.
The parties also agreed on practical steps to enhance further cooperation. Priorities include efforts aimed at the return of Ukrainian children, exchanges of prisoners of war, and rehabilitation programs for children affected by the war.
